Home Theater systems are the in-house entertainment setups which will make you feel like a real experience of sitting in a Movie Theater. This entertainment setup includes a Large Screen, speakers and Woofer, all three combine to make a real experience for you while enjoying a movie in your own home theater.
But, this arrangement can also put you off if you haven’t placed the speakers in an optimum manner. Speakers not properly configured can create a lot of sound disturbances like dialogs not audible clearly; low surround sound or even your woofer may sound muffled or boomy.
So, in order to enjoy better sound quality out of your Home Theater you should consider these few tips for placement of your speakers.
1. The very first thing to do is to sit in front of your home theater system in the middle of the couch. Place the Center Channel in front of you, this can be above or beneath the screen. Now place the right and left speakers making an angle of 30 degrees from you. Also place the surround speakers making an angle of 100 degrees from you at a height of 2 ft from your ear level to the side or slightly behind you. Woofer setting depends on an individual’s preference. It can be placed under a table for a bit deeper bass response or can be anywhere else for relatively low bass.
2. All the speakers of your home theater system should be at the distance of 1 or 2 feet from the wall.
3. You should take care that the tweeters of your speaker should be at the level of your ears from the place you are sitting. It gives you better overall sound mix.
4. If your home theater has multiple left and right front speakers, then the best way to place the speakers is in an arc position with speakers at an angle of about 22 to 30 degrees from listener’s position. This gives the listener the best experience for voice sounds.
5. Surround Sound Speakers can also be placed slightly behind the listener’s position at the left and right side.
6. The final area of concern lies in the placing of the wires. One should place the wires to be hidden as much as possible. This doesn’t effect the sound in any way but sure makes your system look better. Another consideration is to have them tucked safely away from the reach of children or domestic pets.
7. Some of the home theater systems also have customized menu options that will help you to place the speakers at the optimum distance from the listener’s position. It also facilitates to check the output level of sound by creating a test tone. Most systems come with a way to test your speaker placement.
